Historical Background

Built in the 17th century by Pathans from Peshawar, Gartang Gali served as a crucial trade route between India and Tibet. Merchants historically transported wool, spices, and goods across its narrow planks. The 1962 Indo-China war caused border closure and the bridge fell into disrepair for nearly 60 years until its public reopening in 2021.
